10 Essential Items to Have in Your Gym Bag

Essential Items for Your Gym BagAre you balancing a healthy lifestyle with your 9-5 job? Then you know as well as anybody how essential your gym bag is to your daily fitness success.

No one wants to reach into their bag and discover that they’ve left out their deodorant or a spare pair of socks. But you also don’t want to be lugging a week’s worth of gym clothes with you while you commute.

To help you find the perfect balance between efficiency and necessity, here is a list of essential items you should have in your gym bag:

  • Deodorant: Deodorant has a dual purpose as the primary element of your gym bag. No one wants to be that guy who is stinking up the gym. But you also want to be prepared when leaving the gym after some intense cardio. If you have plans to meet up with some friends after your gym session, you’ll be doing yourself (and everyone else) a favor by making sure your deodorant has a primary place in your gym bag.

  • Extra Socks: If you’re a member of the stinky-feet club, you’ll want to make sure you’ve got a clean pair of socks handy. You can push them to the bottom of your water-bottle holder as a space-saver and for easy access.

  • Gym Shoes: It goes without saying that proper footwear is crucial to a successful workout. Whether you need your sturdy lifting shoes, or running shoes for the treadmill, make sure you’ve got a bag big enough to stock your footwear.

  • Water Bottle: A water bottle is lightweight and easy to toss in, but will also make sure you stay hydrated for that spin class or while you’re crushing those gains.

  • Nutrition or Protein Bar: If you work out regularly, throw a handful of powerbars into your gym bag at the beginning of the week. That way you can finish each workout with the protein and energy you need to build muscle.

  • Dry Shampoo: A small bottle of dry shampoo will make sure you can make the transition from gym-life to social-life without feeling greasy.

  • Fitness Tracker: Whether it’s your trusty notebook, your fitness watch, or an app on your phone, make sure you’re traveling with your fitness tracker to stay on top of your progress.

  • Extra Headphones: If music is the key to entering Beast Mode, we always recommend coiling up an extra set of headphones so you can always hear the beats you need to hit one more rep.

  • Extra Clothes: An extra pair of shorts, underwear, or tank top will make sure you’re not wrinkling your nose at yourself.

  • An ID Card: It’s always a good idea to put your name and phone number on an index card or key tag. That way your gym bag has a better chance of making its way home to you if misplace it.
